In this lesson: Explain the functions and basic requirements of a computer network.

Explain how devices are identified on a network.

Network Identification

The success of TCP/IP and networks in general relies on the ability to identify separate nodes on a network, and any system used for identification purposes must be able to assign unique identification values.

Because computers are typically incorporated into multiple networks today, network devices have multiple levels and multiple types of identification. These include MAC addresses, IP addresses, and domain names.
