It is understandable that many people confuse the Internet and the World Wide Web because the World Wide Web is the most visible face of the Internet.

Virtually any time users need to complete a specific task online or find particular information, they will use the Web to do so. On a desktop or laptop, users typically have to open a browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox to open a Web page, but many smartphone apps today are simply stand-alone Web-based applications that work independently of a separate browser.
