Professional Design Portfolio
Welcome!
Most of the work I have done as an instructional designer has included proprietary content. I have included a small sample of that work below. While I was the primary designer for this content, I do not claim ownership.
The tools I have used to create content include:
- Code editors for HTML
- Blueprint, a proprietary tool developed and owned by The Learning House
- Xyleme, a content management system that allows developers to publish single-source content in a variety of outputs
- EasyGenerator
- PowerPoint
- iSpring
- Print publications
Only some of these tools are represented below.
The Internet and the World Wide Web
This lesson was created as part of a larger project to build a new, online Bachelor of Science program for a university. The focus for this lesson is to help learners understand how the Internet and the World Wide Web are different technologies, and how they emerged from pre-Internet technology.
The module was build using a proprietary software named Blueprint created for use by The Learning House. Blueprint presents the material in a slideshow format, allowing the designer to chunk the content into meaningful parts and to provide self-assessments for the learner during the learning path. The learner can navigate through the content at their own pace.
Using Git and VCS: Group Project
This is an example assignment from a software development course that asked learners to use BitBucket as a version control platform. Learners were provided with basic instructions on how to create a Bitbucket account and create a repository, and on how to use Git to manage and sync the repository files locally. This exercise is a graded assignment to ensure that learners have set up Git and Bitbucket correctly prior to using BitBucket for later development work.
The activity asks learners to work with one or more classmates and then to share the repository with the instructor. It includes a grading rubric that allows the instructor to quickly evaluate and provide feedback on each submission. The assignment was originally published in an LMS that could use the rubric to assign a grade to the learner.
Xyleme allows content to be published as a SCORM package or as a PDF document. The examples below are from a two courses I built as part of a project to create a new, online Computer Science program.

While most of the content I have produced has been published for use on the web, I have also coauthored three books based on the content created for online courses.
The following links provide examples from these books.
